Robin Lathroum

Robin Lathroum is trained in social work and clinical nursing but has made and sold functional craft since the 1970s.  The focus in the early years was textiles including knitting, embroidery and all manner of clothing construction.  More recently Robin has explored and developed quilting, mosaic, soap making, coptic bound journals, metal worked jewelry and growing healing herbs.  Her original home is Western Pennsylvania, but her craft is informed by work and travel to countries including the Philippines, South Korea, Denmark and more recently Uganda.  Being a military spouse for 25 years also served to enrich the depth and variety of work she is able to generate and willingly share for others to learn.

Robin and her husband are parents to three grown children and now live in Dallastown, Pa.  She organizes and manages Glory Bound Quilters which designs, produces and gifts quilts to local police, firefighters and other service providers in her community.  She also travels regularly to Wakiso, Uganda to teach the women in sustainable trades.

Winnie Otema

Leading Glory Bound Ministry (Uganda), I am committed to mobilizing women to learn skills for a sustainable livelihood in the rural areas of my home country. I am the ninth born of ten children raised in Busia, Uganda. My mother was a peasant farmer and also locally made pots and sold sugarcane to earn extra income for school fees and some basic necessities. Our sweet home was a grass thatched house. My dad loved planting trees and flowers around the house. Going to school bare foot without books and pencils meant writing my exercise work on the floor with fingers. I always prayed and asked God not to send rain during school hours because my book was the floor and my classroom was a mango tree shade. By God’s grace, I gave my life to the Lord in 1997.

In 2007, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management at Makerere University and later with a diploma in Early Childhood and Education in 2017 from India.

In the past, leading women’s ministry and teaching children at my local church where my late husband, David, also served have led to this present outreach. I also teach alongside Robin during her GBM ministry trips to Uganda. Through Glory Bound Ministry (USA) in partnership with GBM (Uganda), we are able to teach women to make crafts for sustainable livelihood in the rural areas of Uganda.
